OK to use a PCI riser?

15 years 2 months ago #2792 by [email protected]
Hello

I'd like to use a small-form-factor PC to build a server for SOHO users. There's little room, so the single PCI slot requires a PCI riser so the card can lie parallel to the motherboard.

Can the A400 card work with a riser?

BTW, what's the difference between the A400 P, E, and M? Can they all work with any motherboard, or are the compatibility issues to check before?

Thank you.

A400P can work with most kind of riser, and can work with your m/b

P=PCI
M=miniPCI
E=pci-express

Thanks for the reply. Before I order a computer to build a server, I need to check:
1. To check if the motherboard is compatible, the magic words are "mini PCI type III" and "PCI Express 1.0 slot"?
2. The height/width remains the same accross the three models; The only difference is in the golden connector that links the card to the PCI bus?
3. The MiniPC version actually consists in two parts: One to connect to the PCI bus, the other part hold the four phone plugs, and the two are connected by a cable that looks like an IDE cable?

Thank you.
